Siskiyou County 4-H Youth Development Program: Mountain Runners Highlight

Mountain Runners is excited to donate proceeds from the 2021 Mt. Shasta Fourth of July Virtual Walk/Run to some of Siskiyou County's finest youth organizations and sports teams. These groups exemplify the spirit of community service, leadership, and teamwork, and we would like to take this opportunity to share their stories.

This week’s Highlight:

Siskiyou County 4-H Youth Development Program

u County 4-H Youth Development Program plays a key role in the development of young people and is a leader in creating opportunities for youth and adults to learn, grow, and work together as catalysts for positive change. Taking place through meaningful, hands-on, community-based learning experiences around Civic Engagement, Leadership, Healthy Living and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), the University of California 4-H Youth Development Program engages youth in reaching their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development.

Siskiyou County 4-H has over 200 youth members and 50 adult partners that participate in 4-H club programs and an additional 100-300 students that are reached annually through school enrichment programs. Like most programs we have seen our share of challenges throughout 2020 and into the early months of 2021. By teaching the ability to adapt, make improvements and grow in times of adversity we are building resiliency in our youth and helping them learn to thrive. It is more important than ever that through Civic Engagement youth are learning to make a positive difference by engaging in learning opportunities that give them a heightened sense of responsibility and capacity to connect as active members of their communities, nation and world. All proceeds provided from work at community events are used to provide travel opportunities for 4-H youth attendees for leadership and civic conferences, as well as engagement in future community service opportunities.
